Green Lab Challenge Tools
We are using the Universe Sandbox2 to support a digital VR Climate Investigation for participants of the MK Green Lab Challenge. This virtual experience is easily manipulated by users and helps develop a better understanding of the part science can play when advocating for change and community action. The MK ‘skills for life’ philosophy supports participants in the designing and innovating of personal and ongoing Green Lab initiatives.
The Universe Sandbox allows us to play around with software parameters and model the effects of an increase or decrease in global temperatures on Earth or the effect of other interactions within the atmosphere … including Greenhouse Emissions.
What happens to the Sea Level, Biodiversity, drought areas, and availability of freshwater?
What UN Sustainability goals are affected adversely by changes to Earth Systems?
How do we interact with the atmosphere?
What do you think could happen to the Blue Planet in the simulation?
Move next door to Mars and reverse the parameters.
What can you see happening to the Red Planet?
As a classroom learning tool, the Virtual Reality experience can be used to tick curriculum boxes across year levels and learning areas while addressing a swathe of cross-curriculum priorities.
VR goggles are NOT required.
Lesson Plans we have put together for the Green Lab Challenge digital toolkit are introduced using the KISS Principle i.e. Keep it Simple and Straightforward.
Green Lab participants are able to take the activities as far as needed virtually before getting REAL out in their own Green Lab.
